History: William Denton was an early reader who could recite whole passages of scripture at 8 years old. Later, in London, he took an interest in mesmerism. In 1848, he emigrated to Philadelphia. Drawing from the works of Joseph Rodes Buchanan, Denton began writing about psychometry and claimed that his wife was a "psychometer." Denton traveled around the world giving lectures, and died from fever in 1883 while on a tour in Papua New Guinea.
