Published in 1840 by William W. Snowden, New York. This magazine was first published in 1838, during a period in U.S. history where magazine subscriptions were slowly becoming popular. By the 1860s, the number of subscribers in the U.S. had nearly doubled. Most of these magazines had a high moral tone, but low intellectual content. Nevertheless, this volume provides a rich source of insights into the cultural norms and literary tastes of mid-19th century America.
